1. About the Campaign
This campaign invites general donations towards the Puri Ratha Yatra, one of the world’s oldest and largest living Hindu chariot festivals. Celebrated annually during the bright fortnight of Ashadha, the festival marks the sacred journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra from the Shree Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.
2. The Problem and the Solution
Organising the Ratha Yatra requires extensive preparation, including the construction and decoration of three massive wooden chariots, performance of traditional rituals, coordination of priests and servitors, and arrangements for the large number of devotees visiting Puri.
General donations will help support:
- Construction and decoration of the ceremonial chariots
- Ritual materials and traditional festival arrangements
- Food, drinking water, and basic assistance for devotees
- Support for priests, servitors, artisans, and volunteers
- Crowd-management, sanitation, and logistical requirements
- Preservation and documentation of the Ratha Yatra tradition
Through this support, devotees can participate in sustaining a sacred tradition that has brought Lord Jagannath into the public presence for generations.
3. Expected Impact and Beneficiaries
The campaign will help ensure the safe, organised, and tradition-centred conduct of the Ratha Yatra and Bahuda Yatra.
Its beneficiaries will include:
- Pilgrims and devotees visiting Puri
- Traditional carpenters, artisans, priests, and temple servitors
- Volunteers and organisations providing assistance during the festival
- Local communities whose livelihoods are connected with the Yatra
- Future generations inheriting this living spiritual tradition
The festival also communicates a powerful message of devotion and inclusion. During the journey, Lord Jagannath’s chariot traditionally pauses near the resting place of Bhakta Salabega, honouring the celebrated devotee’s unwavering bhakti.
