About the Campaign

This project is creating a structured digital edition of the Mahabharata together with Nilakantha’s Bhavadipa commentary. The work involves identifying source editions, Unicode transcription, proofreading by Shastra scholars, semantic tagging and building data structures that make the corpus searchable and useful for research.

The Problem & The Solution

Major Sanskrit texts remain difficult to search and study digitally when editions, commentaries and metadata are scattered or available only as page images. A scholarly digital edition can preserve the text while opening new possibilities for comparative study, teaching and research.

Expected Impact & Beneficiaries

•       Digitise approximately 100,000 shlokas with commentary and metadata.
•       Create a searchable and structured research corpus.
•       Combine traditional scholarly proofreading with modern digital methods.
•       Make an important layer of Mahabharata scholarship more accessible to researchers and future learners.
