1. About the Campaign

This 12-month campaign supports Save Our Heritage Foundation’s mission to identify, document, protect, and restore neglected inscriptions and historic structures across rural India. Established in 2018 in Bundi, Rajasthan, the Foundation follows a grassroots, community-driven approach to preserving India’s civilizational heritage.

2. The Problem and the Solution

Thousands of ancient inscriptions, temples, hero stones, sculptures, and historic structures remain neglected across Indian villages. Many are deteriorating because of weather, inadequate conservation, vandalism, theft, encroachment, and a lack of public awareness.

When an inscription or heritage structure disappears, the historical information it carries—including names, events, languages, customs, and community memories—may be permanently lost.

The Foundation addresses this challenge by:

• Surveying villages to identify vulnerable inscriptions and structures.
• Photographing and digitally documenting inscriptions.
• Decoding and interpreting historical texts.
• Recording location, condition, script, language, and historical context.
• Restoring historic structures using appropriate traditional methods.
• Alerting communities and authorities to heritage at risk of theft or destruction.
• Building digital records for research and future conservation.
• Training and involving local residents in heritage protection.
• Encouraging communities to become long-term custodians of local heritage.

Funding will support field surveys, documentation equipment, epigraphic research, travel, conservation materials, skilled artisans, restoration work, digital archiving, and community-awareness activities.

3. Expected Impact and Beneficiaries

Save Our Heritage Foundation reports that it has already:

• Documented 1,000+ inscriptions.
• Restored or preserved 65+ heritage structures.

The proposed campaign is expected to:

• Identify and document additional endangered inscriptions.
• Protect vulnerable heritage from theft, damage, and disappearance.
• Decode inscriptions and bring overlooked historical narratives into the public record.
• Restore selected heritage structures using context-sensitive methods.
• Create permanent digital records for scholars and future generations.
• Develop local community networks for long-term heritage protection.
• Increase awareness of the historical importance of rural monuments and inscriptions.

The beneficiaries will include local communities, heritage custodians, researchers, historians, archaeologists, students, temples, cultural institutions, and future generations.
